Clayton County Begins Its $1.5MM Tennis Reconstruction Project with $600K Allocated to Clayton County Tennis Center

To continue to prioritize the growing demand for tennis and pickleball for its residents, Clayton County Parks and Recreation’s Clayton County Tennis Center managed by Atlanta Tennis Group prepares for an extensive makeover to include 15 newly resurfaced courts and 6 new pickleball courts.

The project, scheduled to begin in January 2024 and completed by May 2024, will position the tennis center to become one of the best in the state.

CLAYTON COUNTY, GA – January 2, 2024 – The Clayton County Tennis Center, managed by Atlanta Tennis Group, begins an extensive reconstruction project this week. The project will address some long-needed updates while meeting the growing demand of pickleball in the state. As Clayton County Parks and Recreation starts its county-wide $1.5MM tennis reconstruction initiative, $600,000 of the budget has been allocated to the Clayton County Tennis Center.  This county-wide initiative will begin with the Clayton County Tennis Center, slated to break ground on January 4th. The tennis center closure is effective immediately and is only open for use to those working on the construction project.

Tracey Nicole Austin (Coach Tracey), Clayton County Tennis Center’s Director of Racquet Sports and Principal of Atlanta Tennis Group says, “our administration, staff, and coaches will make the most of this Winter/Spring season in Clayton County despite temporarily being displaced but are excited about the reopening in May 2024. We are confident that the outcome of this extensive makeover will be beautiful and inviting to our current members, prospective members, and guests. We look forward to once again hosting even more players at the tennis center starting in May for a variety of programming options, and for summer camp training starting in June”.

With two decades of experience in the business of racquet sports, Atlanta Tennis Group, also doing business as “Atlanta Tennis”, a tennis management services organization, will continue to serve Clayton County residents at alternative locations until the project is complete.  Winter/spring programming will be provided by coaches at other tennis courts throughout the county but will return to its tennis center home in May for the summer season. Clayton County Tennis Center will open on time for its Tennis and Pickleball Summer Camp with registration beginning this month and the first camp day being June 3rd. Atlanta Tennis will maintain its 2024 Tennis tournament schedule at other locations throughout the state (soon to be announced).

The Clayton County Tennis Center will not be able to accommodate High Schools during the Spring 2024 Varsity season as it has traditionally done in the past, or its High School Regional tournament schedule but is prepared to continue to host local and nearby high schools during the 2025 varsity season. Local league teams will also need to find new locations during the months of January through April but expect to return in May.

The Clayton County Tennis Center will resume with its regular schedule as of May 2024. It is currently accepting tournament bookings, special event reservations, league registrations, summer camp applicants, and membership applications each of which will activate in May or the respective time. Programming will resume next week and the programming booking page will be updated with new locations for winter/spring courses.
